Suzuki HP-275e FAQ’s
Why would you choose to buy a digital piano rather than an acoustic model?
Because the new digital pianos offer many advantages over acoustic models. For example, you can practice with headphones and not disturb your neighbors. Also, two people can easily move or carry a digital piano up and down stairs. Another advantage is that a digital piano never needs tuning. And if cost is a concern, you'll be pleased to know that most digital pianos cost less than acoustic pianos.
Because the Suzuki HP-275e is surprisingly user-friendly, this digital piano's modern features will put even traditionally minded players at ease.
Sounds
One question that will probably pop into your mind is how does the Suzuki HP-275e sound? It's superb sound quality will amaze you. It uses digital-sampling technology to emulate fine acoustic pianos. The digital piano's computer memory stores digitally recorded sound (also known as a sample) from an actual recording of a high-quality acoustic piano. Each time you play a note, the digital piano replays the recording.
Touch
The second most important element in a piano after its sounds is how the keyboard feels when you play. On the Suzuki HP275e digital piano, the keyboard's action (the mechanism of its keys) determines the feel. This piano offers a weighted-hammer action, delivering an authentic acoustic piano feel. This action features a key mechanism that emulates the weight and movement of hammers.
Sequencer — Music Recorder
A sequencer allows you to record your performance as you play; you can then play it back at a different tempo or with different instrument sounds.
Headphone and Mic Jacks
If you live in an apartment or want to practice in private, you should buy a digital piano with a headphone jack. The Suzuki HP-275e even has two headphone jacks so you can play duets or practice with a teacher. The microphone jack also allows you to plug in a microphone and sing along while you play or while someone else accompanies you.
Fun Factor
Finally, don't forget the fun factor. Playing music should be an enjoyable experience, so don't hesitate to enjoy features such as auto-accompaniment or unusual instrument sounds in your piano. Have you ever wondered how you could entertain friends as the pianist in a quartet, even though your living space may be a little tight? Have you ever dreamed about taking piano lessons, even though buying and maintaining an acoustic piano is a big investment? Have you hoped to find an instrument for the whole family, including one child who loves classical music and another who prefers rock 'n' roll? Well, with a digital piano, you can do all these things! You can even use your piano for karaoke! It is the one instrument that everyone can use and enjoy, whether it's in a home, school, business, or house of worship.
Let's not forget that a digital piano never needs tuning and weighs far less than its acoustic counter parts. For further information you can research digital pianos on the internet.
How can I hear the different voices that come with the HP-275e?
What is a "voice". A voice is the sound selected on the control panel for the piano to produce when played. It could be a piano sound, a string sound or whatever the piano is able to play.
To select a voice, first select one of the instrument buttons under the SOUND GROUP. This will select the first voice in the group. Then you can use the PLUS and MINUS buttons under VARIATION to audition the different voices. An alternative way to audition voices is to use the DATA WHEEL. Simply scroll through the voices by spinning the wheel. The DATA WHEEL allows you to quickly scroll through all available voices.
Am I able to adjust the tone of the specific voices that comes with the HP-275e?
Yes, two on board features that your piano has are Bass level and Treble level. Along with many other controls that adjust everything from your Accompaniment volume to your Mic input volume, your unit can be customized to the exact specification.
The PANEL CONTROL section displays different options such as UPPER, LAYER, LOWER, GRAND PIANO, REVERB, and EFFECTS. What are these functions?
UPPER: This button is used to select the voice for the upper mode and engages the selected voice for all 88 piano keys.
LAYER: Engaging the LAYER feature will put the piano in layer/dual mode. This allows for two voices to be produced simultaneously. When you play a note on the keyboard, two different instrument voices will be heard.
LOWER: With the LOWER feature engaged the piano operates in split mode. In the split mode the piano is divided into two sections. In the right hand section the upper or the layered voice will sound, and in the left hand section a different voice can be selected to sound when the keys are played.
GRAND PIANO: This button will reset the piano to its default (power up) settings while engaging the Grand Piano voice for all 88 keys.
REVERB: The reverb effect is engaged automatically when the power is turned on. Reverb simulates the effect of playing in a big room or hall where the sound reverberates off the surrounding walls & ceiling. Pressing the REVERB button will turn off the reverb effect and its LED indicator will turn off.
EFFECTS: The EFFECTS button will add chorus, flanger, or delay effects to the selected instrument voice on the piano. There are eight effects available.
Can the amount of "reverb" and "effects" be customized to the players needs?
Yes, the SETUP section contains depth control for the reverb and options to change the effect(s) on your HP-275e.
What happens when one of the kids start pressing buttons? How difficult is it to restore my piano's original settings?
"Hard Reset," restores your piano to its factory programmed settings. As with most computer based devices, a reboot of the system is never a bad idea.
To perform a "Hard Reset", simply follow these 3 steps:
Make sure your piano is turned off.
Hold the two "TEMPO" buttons down while turning the piano on.
Your LCD screen should read "Resetting Memory."
It's that easy.
What are the features such as the ONE TOUCH, AUTO ACCOMPANIMENT, and SYNCHRONIZED START?
These features all revolve around your HP-275e rhythm section. These features are used to create fully orchestrated rhythm /bass styles along with chord accompaniments. They will help the beginner understand rhythm and theory, while the more advanced player can use these features to aide in song-writing and arrangement.
Along with these "accompaniment" features I'm also seeing functions such as INTRO/END, FILL IN, FILL TO VAR (VARIATION), and FADE. How do these functions work?
All 50 rhythm styles in your HP-275e can be started with an appropriate introduction and concluded with an ending that fits your rhythm. There are also ten styles that can be selected quickly by pressing one of the ten quick select RHYTHM STYLE buttons. The style name is printed above the style select button. The style name and number will be shown on the display. Press the RHYTHM STYLE button again to engage a rhythm select screen. Each button accesses related styles in one or two groups.
What is the SETUP CONTROL? When do I need to use it?
The SETUP CONTROL utility is where one goes to customize the features of the HP-275e. Any changes in Velocity, Split Point, Transpose, Screen Hold, Tune, Fixed Level, Fade Time and Octave Shift can be done here. Reverb & Effect settings, Pedal Assign, Percussion Setup, and Metronome Setup can also be accessed here.
You can connect your piano to your home computer if you wish by using optional MIDI cables. Please see your Owners Manual for more information.
