The Gewa PP-3 is a portable digital piano designed for beginners, students, and musicians who need a compact and affordable instrument for practice or performance.
Key Features of the Gewa PP-3 Digital Piano
The PP-3 features a full-sized, 88-key keyboard with weighted hammer action, which mimics the feel of an acoustic piano. This is great for developing proper finger technique.
Portable and Lightweight
Weighing around 11kg, the PP-3 is designed to be portable, making it easy to transport for gigs, rehearsals, or lessons.
Sound Quality
It uses high-quality sampled piano sounds, typically offering a realistic and dynamic tone. Some models may include additional voices (e.g., electric piano, organ, strings).
Built-in Speakers
The PP-3 comes with built-in speakers, providing decent sound output for practice sessions or small performances.
Connectivity
It usually includes standard connectivity options like:
MIDI/USB for connecting to computers or Digital Audio Workstations.
Headphone jack for silent practice.
Sustain pedal input (often includes a basic sustain pedal).
Design and Build Quality
The Gewa PP-3 has a sleek, minimalist design with a sturdy build. It’s not as robust as high-end digital pianos, but it’s well-suited for its price range.
Affordable Price
Positioned as an entry-level digital piano, making it an excellent choice for beginners or those on a budget.
Pros
Affordable: Great value for money, especially for beginners.
Portable: Lightweight and easy to move around.
Realistic Feel: Weighted hammer action keys provide a good playing experience.
Decent Sound Quality: Suitable for practice and small performances.
Simple and Functional: Easy to set up and use, with no unnecessary complications.
Cons
Limited Features: Compared to higher-end models, it may lack advanced features like extensive sound libraries, recording capabilities, or Bluetooth connectivity.
Basic Pedal: The included sustain pedal is often a simple switch-style pedal, not a full damper pedal.
Speaker Quality: While adequate for practice, the built-in speakers may not be powerful enough for larger rooms or performances.
Who Is It For?
Beginners: Its affordability and realistic key action make it an excellent choice for those just starting out.
Students: Its portability and simplicity are ideal for students who need a reliable practice instrument.
Casual Players: If you’re looking for a no-frills digital piano for occasional use, the PP-3 is a solid option.
The Gewa PP-3 Digital Piano is a great entry-level instrument that balances affordability, portability, and functionality. While it may not have the advanced features or premium build quality of higher-end digital pianos (like Yamaha, Roland, or Kawai), it’s a fantastic option for beginners or anyone on a budget. If you’re looking for a reliable practice piano that won’t break the bank, the PP-3 is definitely worth considering.
The GEWA PP-3 is a portable digital piano that has garnered attention for its combination of features, sound quality, and portability. Here’s a breakdown of what makes it stand out:
While the plastic cabinet contributes to its lightweight design, making it easy to transport, some users have noted that it may not match the build quality of higher-end models. However, for its price point, the GEWA PP-3 offers a solid performance and a range of features that make it a strong contender in the portable digital piano market.

Questions
Hi Mr Howard
I did find it useful thanks so much – I’m going to pass it onto my Dad who is very interested in such things I’m sure he’ll appreciate it too.
I think I can find what I’m looking for now thanks to you but it doesn’t hurt to ask. My son is doing music at college – he is grade 8 on a few instruments but has only just started piano – that said he loves it so I know he will keep at it from now on. He can play piano in the practice rooms at college, but needs a keyboard in his room. I think he needs 88 weighted keys, and thanks to you I now understand touch sensitivity so that’s something I’ll consider now as well – it needs to be one of those keyboards that can be lifted off an X frame and isn’t too heavy – that said – he doesn’t need a lot of bells and whistles, just piano and grand piano sounds.
I was going to buy second hand, hopefully under £500. Can you recommend any particular model that springs to mind? I wouldn’t hold you responsible – you’ve already stopped me buying something completely inappropriate so I owe you one for that – but I’d be interested in your advice if you have time.
Reply/ Hi Rebecca
I would like to recommend for you the Gewa PP-3.
This is a lovely sounding portable piano that has
88 fully-weighted, touch sensitive keys.
It’s suitable easily up to grade 6 or 7, so your son
can use this piano to progress up to a decent level.
The piano is sampled on a Steinway grand, so you
get a warm, resonant tone with long sustain…
Quite unusual for a portable piano.
It isn’t very heavy, so can easily be lifted on and
off an x-type stand.
The features are also limited, this is one of the
reasons Gewa is able to keep the price down.
I’ve not seen anything as good as this for a similar price.
Yours pianistically,
Graham Howard
Further questions/
That looks ideal thank you – do you have any refurbished or second hand ones as that’s a bit more than I can afford. That said I’d like to buy from you because you’ve been so helpful – we have a couple of months before he needs it and I might be able to save a bit up by then! If you do have that model used or one comes in I would definitely be interested.
Further reply/
We don’t have any used ones at the moment.
Another option for you would be to take it on
The Rent to Buy programme.

Hi Graham
My daughter is at University.
Piano is her second most popular instrument (she plays sax & has joined a uni band).
She is not heavily into performing but took GCSE music which has inspired her to play for pleasure on piano & dabble in composing.
She is missing our piano (sax is not very sociable) & has asked if we could get a ‘keyboard’ for her to play with headphones.
At home she mainly played our acoustic piano rather than keyboard, but I suspect the features of a keyboard (eg polyphony, keyboard split, transposing etc) will appeal.
The MIDI/AUX functions would be needed – I can see her composing on her iPad Air
Key weighting would be ideal but probably be too expensive.
Portability will appeal as she gets more confidence, she is likely to play with others.
Thank you for your digital piano bible, it was useful.
Are you able to suggest anything?
Many thanks
Reply/ Hi Richard
Thanks for the info.
The only piano we have at the moment that appears to suit
your daughter’s requirements is the Gewa PP-3.
Let me know if you’d like more information.
We also do a range of digital pianos with fixed stands.
The Broadway BW1 and Gewa DP300G are our
most popular. They’re quite compact as well.
Would something like this also be a consideration?
Yours pianistically
Graham Howard
